Packing & Planning the Day Before Your Competition

The day before the competition is for checking the plan and getting your bag ready. Keep practice light and leave yourself time to rest instead of trying to solve every technical issue at once.

Save the information you will need

Keep your registration confirmation, entry list, venue address, parking instructions, and latest schedule together on your phone. Save copies you can access if reception is unreliable. Check whether the organizer has updated arrival instructions, bag policies, or food rules.

Agree on transportation and a team meeting place. Allow time for parking, check-in, changing, and warm-up before your first event. Tell your partner how you will reach each other if plans change.

Pack your essentials

Pack for your entries and the venue. Keep the items you need for check-in and your first dances easy to reach.

Check-in & logistics

  • Registration and payment confirmation
  • Required identification or membership details
  • Latest schedule, entries, and team meeting information
  • Phone, charger, and travel arrangements

Dancing & comfort

  • Dance shoes and any required heel protectors
  • Outfits, undergarments, socks or tights as needed
  • Warm layer and comfortable shoes between dances
  • Water and familiar snacks, subject to venue policy
  • Personal-care items and medications you normally need

Repairs & presentation

  • Safety pins and a small sewing kit
  • Garment bag and hangers if needed
  • Hairpins, elastics, brush, and styling products as needed
  • Any makeup, remover, or touch-up supplies you use

Optional extras: Bring a robe, fashion tape, false lashes, rhinestones, or costume repair supplies only if your outfit and grooming plan call for them. They are not basic requirements for a first competition.

Pack for your first dances

Keep identification, confirmations, shoes, and the first outfit you need easy to find. Group hair and repair supplies in small bags so you can locate them without unpacking everything.

The printable checklist is a broad reference. Choose the items that fit your entries, clothing, grooming plan, and venue, rather than treating every item as mandatory.

Before you go to bed

  • Check the latest organizer updates.
  • Charge your phone and set your alarm.
  • Confirm transport, departure time, and partner contact.
  • Lay out travel clothes and your warm layer.
  • Have your packed bag and dance shoes together.

Keep the last practice simple: Review starts, timing, and your recovery figure. Save difficult changes for your next training cycle.
